At Paramount Fencing, one of our priorities is educating our customers about the different fencing options they have and how to become (wisely) picky about what they choose. We do this because we want to ensure our customers are always satisfied with what they decide on. To further your education, perhaps to the advanced level of fencing expertise, here are some specific “did you knows” about fencing:
Did you know:
- Water sealants are imperative for preserving your fence. Acrylic based sealants are better than no sealant at all, but must be reapplied on an annual basis. The best option is oil based-it has the ability to seep into the center of the wood and dry from the inside out.
- There are two different assembly methods: Pre-fabrication with panels, and stick built which is performed on-site. Be wary of both!
- That there is an extremely important tip we stress on our website? “Avoid companies that go between posts because the fence will fall apart. Most companies using this method will not take the time to either rout the post or use the correct screws. Couple this with the fact pressure treated lumber shrinks, you could have a mess on your hands.”
- Companies that pay their employees by the foot and not by the hour often times retain the best available workers in fencing.
With that, you have some more insight into the world of smart fence shopping! Again, keeping you informed is one of our biggest goals.

Not all wood is created equally. What wood might work well in colder climates may not be able to sustain itself from a barrage of constant sunlight. In Florida, a Pressure Treated Southern Pine is the most resilient in prolonged rain and heat. Cypress is a very reliable and durable wood as well, but it mostly is shipped from the North and might cost quite a bit more.
Here are some things to watch out for if you aren’t careful about which kind of wood you’re selecting:
- Some wood is mixed with plastic. Stick with vinyl if you like the idea of a plastic fence.
- Pre-fabricated wooden fences are prone to damage and regular repairs. It is still considered pre-fab if any of the sections of the fence aren’t constructed on-site.
- Avoid wood from other countries if you can. Many home improvement stores purchase their wood from distributors whom import.
Making sure you select the best possible wood for your fencing project will maintain longevity and superior condition for 10, 15, or even 20 years.

PVC Fencing is very commonly used in modern day fencing. Something to keep in mind is that PVC fencing comes in different forms, that are not always the sturdiest or most reliable fencing. The four types are: Plastic, Refurbished, Monoextruded, & Double Extruded.

Let’s start with Plastic. Although plastic is more affordable, it needs to be replaced after just 5 years. The fence is also very brittle & generally turns yellowish in color.
Refurbished fencing is recycled plastic & vinyl melted down, with a thin layer of vinyl on the outside of a gray core. Generally lasts about 10 years before needing to be replaced.
Monoextruded, on the other hand, i s vinyl extracted from plastic & coated with polyurethane. These fences, though better than the two above, are an economy version of pure vinyl fencing. The wall thickness is thin and the clear coating wears off within 3 to 5 years.
Double Extruded Vinyl, on the other hand, is actual full PVC (polyvinyl chloride). PVC had UV resistance which means that the coloring will not be impacted by the weather. The PVC is reprocessed & environmentally friendly because there are no air/ground pollutants & PVC uses less fossil fuel than wood or aluminum in its production. The Double Extruded Vinyl PVC is designed to last a lifetime.
The choice is yours of which PVC fence is right for your home, the best fence with longevity in color & stability is the Double Extruded Vinyl.

If you’ve decided what kind of fence you’d like to glamorize your backyard with, it’s time to find the right company for the job. Keep in mind, all companies are most definitely not created equal. Here are some things to educate yourself about before you even pick up the phone:
- Find out if the company is using the same manufacturer for everything. This could conflict with warranties on your fence.
- Try to avoid companies that charge you by the hour. Companies that charge per hour and more likely to have employees that aren’t experienced and haven’t been with the company too long.
- Call “Locates” before any digging commences. This is a free service, and your company should never charge you for it.
- Make sure all permitting is completed before the job begins. Not doing so can cost you hundreds in fines.
If you want a company that has all the qualities you need for the perfect fencing project, contact us at Paramount Fencing. Call us today to find out why we’re the company for you.
