Though we talk in great detail about the fantastic benefits of having and maintaining your wooden and vinyl fences, sometimes the choice for your backyard is going to be aluminum. A quality aluminum fence is going to be resistant to soil, water, and chemicals you may be adding to your lawn. Usually, there is a fraction of the maintenance for these fences compared to others. But before you give your lawn a stern, metallic makeover, here are some things to be wary of aluminum before you begin your project:
- Aluminum comes in three different grades: residential, light commercial, and commercial. You may have the thought “aluminum is aluminum” going through your head, but unfortunately, this isn’t the case.
- Residential aluminum suffers from three shortcomings. The industry standard for residential aluminum is spray painted with an enamel clear coat or a thin powder coat. This means it will fade relatively quickly. It is also thin, and can actually be bent with enough force from your hand. Lastly, the construction of the pickets is generally flimsy and will fall apart after enough physical wear.
- Commercial grade isn’t typical a great choice for homes because of its high cost. Even though the structure will be sound and you won’t have to worry about the same problems with residential, this aluminum is normally reserved for bigger fencing projects such as manufacturing facilities and parking lots.
- Light commercial is a great medium for home fencing. It is the balance between being within the budget while providing a solid construction for your fencing needs
If you’re looking for a expertly-constructed fence for your backyard made with light commercial aluminum, let Paramount Fencing craft the project with our 25 years of experience. Call us today and learn more!

Arbors are commonly overlooked as a great addition for the backyard, and can be customized to bring a wonderful aesthetic. They can be constructed using either wood or metal, and each material will have a unique effect on the yard. Here are a few reasons to consider an arbor:
- Instead of having a typical fence door or opening for transitioning your front yard from your back yard, an arbor creates an ornate, classy pathway.
- Arbors can be used to provide shade. Building them over tables, flowers, and even spas will offer a nice component to your landscape.
- Arbors work well in gardens. Plants can grow vertically up the arbor, not only providing more space for more vegetables and fruits, but also adding a beautiful touch to the architecture of your garden.
If you’re looking for the perfect arbor for your backyard, let Paramount Fencing take command of its creation. Call us today and learn more!

Vinyl fences are typically chosen because they are durable, reasonably priced, and low-maintenance. Opposed to its wooden counterpart, Vinyl fences enjoy the attributes of being chip-free and being able to tough out harsh temperature fluctuations. But before you leave your vinyl fence to fend for itself, here are some suggestions for preventing damages:
- Your fence may be stalwart against all types of conditions, but if the components of the fence aren’t secured properly, they can still be susceptible to cracking if the weather gets brutal enough. Make sure you check the components every so often.
- Try to avoid doing any backyard activities too close to your fence. BBQ’ing is one thing that should be done from a safe distance; extreme heat from the grill can still possibly melt your vinyl. Using weed-whackers and other lawn-maintenance tools close to the fence can leave ugly marks, or worse.
- Try to refrain from painting your fence! The UV protectant in it will be covered, and the difficulty and time of doing this task really isn’t worth the effort. Hopefully the color chosen originally will suffice for the life of the fence.

Summer will be here right before you know it, and you can already hear your fence creaking in apprehensive anticipation. Since your wooden fence has already become an important investment, precautions should be taken to prevent costly repairs in the future. If your fence is in sunny Orlando like ours are, it can be damaged by direct sun exposure in a matter of a few years, but you don’t have to leave your fence susceptible to killer UVs. Fortunately, there are UV blocker products out there made specifically for covering your fence! Before you protect your palisade with a coat of strong sunblock, there are steps required for preparation.
- Any vegetation meandering its way through your pickets must first be removed. Be careful during this process; vegetation is known to have separation anxiety and will take parts of your fence with it as a keepsake.
- As we noted with previous routine fence maintenance, remove any rusted nails in your fence, and inspect the rails and pickets to ensure they are secure.
- Give the fence a very good cleaning. A pressure washer would be ideal. This should be sufficient to blast off any mold, mildew, and dirt that has collected. Be careful while wielding this water blaster. If used too close to the fence, there is a chance it can do more harm than good. Make sure the fence is completely dry before we proceed to the fun part.
- We can finally apply our UV blocker! Find one you think best suits your fence. Follow the steps carefully, and once it is done, try to remember this process must be done again in several years.
If you’re looking for a wonderful fence that you’re willing to protect from the elements like a part of the family, Paramount Fencing can provide the means of constructing it. Call us today and learn more!

We must first consider why we’ve specifically decided to go with a privacy fence, as opposed to a typical fence we could normally construct to perimeter our home and lawn. Privacy fences don’t have spaces between each rail, and can extend higher than other fences, thus creating a barrier that ensures your privacy. We may have our own motives for this route with fencing, but most likely it has to do with preventing neighbors from eavesdropping, peeking into our pool parties, and attempting to reach through an opening to pilfer a hot dog right off the grill.
There are mostly only pros for deciding to construct a privacy fence instead of a semi-private fence, besides that it could be more costly and require more maintenance because of the usage of more materials. Architecturally, there are very interesting ways to make a outstanding privacy fence. They can be painted into a more fluid design because there aren’t any gaps in the planks. Also since there are no gaps, intruders from the outside can’t find any footing on the exterior of your fencing. This prevents your summer-sweltered neighbors from hopping your fence to use your pool while you’re on vacation.

Since we went over how to maintain a beautiful wooden fence last week, we’ll discuss the different techniques you can implement to keep your vinyl fence looking top-notch. Vinyl fences can be a hassle to clean, especially when they have excessive grime, dirt, and algae build-up. Of course, all these things will be easier to remove if you assess the problem sooner than later. If you’ve been neglecting the maintenance, there are some methods you can use to restore your vinyl fence to its original, gleaming luster.
To start, spray down the fence with a hose, applying pressure with your thumb to give it the “pressure-washer” effect. More stubborn dirt and grime can be removed by using a soft-bristle brush. For parts of the fence that are stained, a detergent-water solution can help. Simply mix a little dishwasher detergent in water and wipe the stains with a rag. If the stains are severe enough, you may have to use some bleach. Remember to always wear latex gloves while working with chemicals!

When was the last time you inspected your fence for holes, wood rot, or rusting nails? It’s probably about time you gave it a thorough look at start planning what needs to be replaced or repaired. It is best to regularly scan your fence for these problems and catch them early on-fences can easily be permanently stained if they aren’t washed properly every so often. Normally a solution of white vinegar, liquid soap, and warm water will effectively clean any wooden fence.
Rusted nails can be far more problematic. If they have been introduced to your fence for quite some time, it may be too difficult to pull them out with a vice grip or hammer them out because they will take a piece of your fence with them. One method for removing these oxidized offenses is to drill small holes on both sides of the nail and attempt to wiggle them out (of course, be sure to always wear gloves during this process). Blemishes and holes in your fence can also be replaced in sections; there is no need to dismantle the entire thing.

As you can imagine, building a fence up the side of a mountain would be considerably more difficult than a flat, stable field. The efforts may be increased, but the project can be done. The method most commonly used for this situation is called “contour construction”, where the fence is built to follow the contours of fluctuating elevation. Most fence types have little trouble conforming to the techniques of the contour method. It takes good planning, measurements, and materials to make the process a relatively simple one.
Another method that can be used on uneven terrain is the “stepped” method. Instead of your fence aligning itself with the slope of the ground, your fence is constructed in segments that go down in steps. The posts of the fence are level, while in the contour method they may be angled downward. No matter what method you choose, it is imperative that the work done is accurate and done with careful attention to detail. It would be disappointing to have a section of the fence off kilter and sagging because of lack of planning, throwing off the aesthetic of the entire project.

You finally have a beautiful, new wooden fence in your backyard, but perhaps it’s looking a bit plain. Not only is painting your fence a great way to add to the décor and theme of your backyard, but it’s also a unique opportunity to do some work outside with the family and have fun doing it. Painting a fence doesn’t have to be a tedious or dreadful experience. Plan first what color fence would work well with its surroundings (nothing too zany, you don’t want your neighbors to get on your case).
One important thing to remember is not to skimp financially on your project. You should purchase only quality paint and brushes-you’ll probably be happier with the results in the long run. After you figure out what kind of paint you’d like to use and how much of it to get, there are some things to consider about painting your fence properly, especially
with the weather conditions in Florida.
-Make sure you give the fence a quick sanding to remove any dust and dirt
-Choose a good primer to use before painting the fence. This could help especially in more adverse weather conditions. Also aids with the painting process.
-In Florida, the heat may dry your paint too quickly. Find an optimal time of day for your work.
Keeping these points in mind, with the general process of painting a fence, will ensure your endeavor goes smoothly. For a great fence that you can’t wait to apply your brushstrokes to, contact Paramount Fencing today!
